About Faye Liang
Born in 1990 in Guangzhou, China, Faye Liang’s practice spans photojournalism, visual arts, and writing. From 2015 to 2022, Faye worked as a full-time photojournalist for a major Chinese media outlet, covering stories that revealed the complexity and rapid transformation of Chinese society. In 2024, Faye began her MFA studies at the University of Chicago, aiming to push the boundaries of her practice by exploring sympathy, humor, and humanity that emerge under oppressive social structures. Her work also seeks to explore and represent a state of being that exists between Western and Eastern ideologies, collectivism and individualism, freedom and autocracy.
